A tassel from a discount supplier shows up in those photos as a stringy, dull, mismatched piece of polyester next to a $40 cap-and-gown rental. What you can customize

The split-color tassel is the upgrade most schools don’t realize is available at no additional charge. If your school colors are blue and gold, the standard cheap tassel is solid blue or solid gold. A split tassel runs half-and-half — both colors visible in every photo. We do split-color tassels at no setup fee because the production process is the same.

Bulk pricing for schools

Tassel pricing is independent of cap-and-gown rentals. Schools that get a great deal on their gown rental from a national supplier often pay way too much per tassel through the same supplier. Ordering tassels separately, in bulk, almost always saves 30–50% per piece while delivering a better-looking product.

Standard ceremony timeline for school administrators

The cleanest version of the ordering timeline: confirm senior count and school colors by April 1, place the order by April 8, receive shipment by April 28, distribute at senior breakfast or rehearsal in mid-May, ceremony in late May. The reality: senior counts shift, colors get disputed, and the order goes in 3 weeks before ceremony. That’s still workable. We’ve shipped emergency tassel orders in 6 business days more times than we can count.

If your ceremony is in the first week of June or later, you’ve got plenty of time. If your ceremony is the last week of May and you haven’t ordered yet, send us the count today and we’ll confirm a production slot.

Custom year charms vs. metallic 2026

The standard charm on a Class of 2026 graduation tassel is a metallic “2026” disc — either gold or silver, depending on which color complements the school’s primary tassel color. We also make custom engraved year charms with the school logo or mascot on the reverse. The lead time for a custom-engraved charm is 4–5 weeks because the disc has to be tooled and engraved before assembly. For most schools, the standard 2026 metallic charm is the right call — it photographs beautifully and adds no time to the order.

Where the tassel actually goes during the ceremony

This is the most-asked question by students and the most-forgotten one by faculty advisors. Before the ceremony, the tassel hangs on the right side. During the moment the graduate is officially “graduated” (usually after the principal’s “I now present” line or the diploma handoff, depending on the school), the senior moves the tassel from right to left. The metallic 2026 charm hangs on the outside of the cap, swinging freely. The charm should face outward, not flat against the mortarboard — it’s designed for the photo.

FAQ

How early should we order Class of 2026 tassels?

Eight weeks before ceremony is comfortable. Four weeks is normal. Three weeks is doable with rush. Two weeks is challenging but not impossible — talk to us.

What’s the difference between rayon and polyester?

Rayon has a slight sheen and feels softer; polyester is matte and feels stiffer. Rayon photographs better. Most high schools order rayon.

Can we get the year charm without the school colors?

Yes — the metallic 2026 charm comes on every Class of 2026 tassel by default. The school colors only affect the cord, not the charm.

Do you make tassels for college and graduate school?

Yes. Doctoral tassels are a separate style (the gold bullion doctoral tassel for the tam), and we can produce those on quote. Master’s and bachelor’s tassels run on the same line as high school.

How are tassels shipped?

Bulk in a single carton, hung on a cardboard hanger inside the box to prevent tangling. If you want each tassel in an individual poly bag for handout at senior breakfast, add it to the quote.

Can students order their own tassel separately if the school is providing one as part of the rental?

Yes. We sell single tassels for individual purchase — this is common for valedictorians and salutatorians who want a special-color or special-charm tassel for their own graduation photo.

What if a tassel arrives defective?

We replace it. Send a photo, and a replacement ships out the same day if it’s before ceremony.

Do you offer Pantone color matching?

On orders of 50+, yes. Below 50 we use our stock color closest to your Pantone, which is usually indistinguishable.
